I come from a long-line of Divastating Sisters, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. While going through the membership-intake process, I learned a lot about myself and those who were leading me to sisterhood and those I was in the trenches with; my line sisters (a term used to signify the ladies who are also going through the process with you). Our ‘big sisters’ gave us a poem to recite for the duration of our time with them, called ‘Don’t Quit.’ Initially when receiving this I thought, OMG another piece of information to retain? Yes, I was less than excited to memorize this and all the other 80,000 pieces of information-look, my brain was on overload. Between pledging my sorority and a grueling school schedule, as a full-time student; let’s just say, the struggle was all too real! lol, but so serious.

At 30+ years old, ‘Don’t Quit resonates with me to this day. I often find myself reciting various stanzas within the poem, to encourage myself to keep going in spite of what circumstances may appear to be. I choose to believe different. So here’s my encouragement to you…learn ‘Don’t Quit’ for your days ahead, even your good ones. Let it serve as a reminder to you that life isn’t all that bad if you choose positive thinking, the tears you sow today will reap great benefits tomorrow, and the love you have for self will be reflected in your daily relationships. Happy Studying, let me know when you have it down by leaving a comment in the comment section.

Don’t Quit

When things go wrong as they sometimes will,
When the road you’re trudging seems all up hill,
When the funds are low and the debts are high
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit,
Rest if you must, but don’t you quit.
Life is queer with its twists and turns,
As every one of us sometimes learns,
And many a failure turns about
When he might have won had he stuck it out;
Don’t give up though the pace seems slow–
You may succeed with another blow,
Success is failure turned inside out–
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt,
And you never can tell how close you are,
It may be near when it seems so far;
So stick to the fight when you’re hardest hit–
It’s when things seem worst that you must not quit.
