Brandi (Big Sis), Zari, and Momma

As I’ve gotten older and birthed my own daughter, I realize the depth of my mother’s love and she doesn’t even swim. Lol Her love for me is deeper than the ocean floor. I didn’t always understand her love language but now see how she was shaping me to be my best and I can’t say nothing but thank you!

Momma, thank you for loving me in spite of my faults, short comings, and moments of I’ll do it myself. Thank you for teaching and leading me by example. For not only telling me what a woman of integrity is, but living and breathing that for Brandi and me, but so many other of your adopted daughters. You’ve been my measuring stick of unconditional love,  fortitude, forgiveness, hope, faith, family, and success. It’s because of you that I have the drive and tenacity that I do, no one else can take credit for that greatness. Your often misunderstood tough love makes perfect sense now. I appreciate your patience in allowing me to arrive to that space, although I know it was challenging for you. Thank you for appreciating my difference and allowing me to find my own way. Thank you for allowing me to color outside the lines with bright colors, stay determined, and be EBONY! Thank you for not giving up on me and not allowing me to give up on myself.

Mi Madre y yo

Thank you for holding me, rubbing my head, cooking my fav meals throughout my pregnancy, going to every doctor appointment, being more excited about the ultra sound than I was, being there to help me labor, giving Z her first bath, keeping her for me her 1st year while I finished school, for continually supporting her growth, and summers off! I couldn’t have conquered this single mom thing without your support and prayers. Lord knows I wanted to just die but you kept me encouraged and prayed for me when I couldn’t pray for myself. You didn’t allow me to throw in the towel. You helped me build my resilience.

You’ve supported me spreading my wings and allowed me to inspire you while pursuing my own dreams. I pray that I’m half the being you are and my family will look to me, as we do you.

Lastly, thank you for teaching me how to be brave and walk with my head high even when there’s a bullseye on your back. It’s because of you that I have the confidence to walk in authority and knows who I am and my purpose in life. I can’t think of a better woman to call Momma! You da best girl. I love you to the moon and back. There’s no greater gift and I will always cherish the imperfect love you’ve given me. You are forever ingrained in my soul and no one can ever replace YOU!

Enjoy your Mother’s day 365!

XOXO, Ebony
